Hellmann successfully digitalizes itself with BlueBox Systems

Logistics company Hellmann is working successfully with start-ups on its own digitalization. An important component of this: BlueBox Systems.

Successful cooperation

Bonn, 18 October 2023 – Innovation, digitalization and sustainable growth are currently among the most important topics in the logistics industry. A combination of an established company and an innovative start-up can deliver exactly that, as the successful cooperation between BlueBox Systems, one of the leading developers of intelligent air freight tracking solutions, and Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, one of the largest medium-sized logistics companies in Germany, proves. At the Logistics Summit, the trade fair and conference for digitalization and innovation in logistics, BlueBox Systems and Hellmann explained the benefits of cooperation between the company and the start-up in Düsseldorf.

“BlueBox Systems brings fresh ideas, agility, new technologies and, above all, speed – for example in implementation – to this partnership. They are passionate about their product and are very determined,” said Stefan BorggreveChief Digital Officer and member of the Executive Board responsible for innovation and transformation at Hellmann, during the panel discussion entitled “Corporates vs. start-ups: Why it takes 2 to scale!”. Another advantage is the mentality that prevails at BlueBox Systems. “When working with start-ups, we benefit from the fact that their lean structures make it much easier for them to experiment and learn very quickly,” said Borggreve.

Martin Bernemann, Chief Technical Officer at BlueBox Systems, added: “A major advantage for us is Hellmann’s market overview and market access, as well as the different perspectives that automatically exist for projects in companies. Hellmann, in turn, receives fresh know-how, state-of-the-art technology and agility from us. So both sides benefit.”

The global full-service provider Hellmann has been using the intelligent air freight tracking solution BlueBox Air from BlueBox Systems for two years and offers it to its customers as “SmartAir!” via a white label solution. The web-based tracking platform makes it possible to monitor all air freight with just a few clicks. Thanks to the data from more than 130 airlines and 1600 airports, which the BlueBox Systems system accesses, users can track the position of the aircraft and thus that of the freight in real time at any time, call up the estimated time of arrival, prevent possible delays and thus save costs. The tracking platform provides a total of around 40 million pieces of status information every day.

“When working with start-ups, it is important for us to offer them access to resources and mentoring as quickly as possible, without a lot of bureaucracy,” said Lena Haartje, Key Account Manager Smart Solutions at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics. “Another crucial point is that when working with start-ups, you don’t just treat them as suppliers, but meet them as equals.” Martin Bernemann said: “When companies and start-ups work together, both sides want transparency. Start-ups expect it to be clearly communicated how far the decision-making process really is. And the companies expect it to be clearly communicated what they can really achieve. At BlueBox Systems, we attach great importance to communicating proactively and delivering as promised. That is our claim.”
